I'm Engaged!

Sorry to have not post anything new for a while... lots have happened and finally... I got engaged to my lovely Sunshine over the weekend. Big smiles (with a goofy dorkish grin) here.. hehe... So, I've been busy with the preperations with loads of help from my mom and the rest of my family. Thanks for all that you have done and contributed to my engagement.

The countdown begins... 4 months to the BIG day! More work to be done.

So Very Busy

These past few weeks have been very exhausting, with work that keeps stacking up (mostly my fault... meet my friend, Mr. Procrastination) and preperations for my engagement. I dunno what I would do without my mom helping me out with all the prep work and shopping... me working out here away from home. Maybe I'll get some rest this Chinese New Year holidays; and then there's the BBQ down in Port Dickson the weekend after that. Looking forward to that.

To my baby Sunshine, get well soon.

Happy Birthday... My Gift To You...

Last Saturday was my first step down the road of matrimony. Rombongan kecil from my family pergi merisik to my lovely Sunshine's house to meet her family. The plan was to arrive at 4pm, however due to unforseen jam we arrived an hour later (tolak from my house pun lambat...well it was bcos of the jam also). All went well, the family got to know each other, borak-borak and makan-makan. I can say for certain that talk about the terms of the engagement was bare minimum (a few minutes in total at most), since me & Sunshine had already decided on most of the details before hand. So this was merely a confirmation and get the families to meet. I brought along a few baskets filled with chocolates, fruits and a cake as buah tangan. That's thanx to my aunt, Auntie Yet. She decorated the baskets n' all. Although I didn't expect the buah tangan dibalas balik.

Yesterday (Sunday), I took Sunshine out to a movie and a nice Thai restaurant. Deliciously appetizing, and quite the stomach full. Wished I could have eaten till the plates were licked clean...haha, alas..my stomach couldn't expand any further.

Today is Sunshine's birthday...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUV!!!

bAcKs! is back!

Haluuuu! Hi! I'm back....

It has been months since my last blog entry. So much has happened; good & bad; all part of life. I can't say for sure why I've neglected to write anything in my blog these past months, definitely not for lack of ideas, just somehow lacking the initiative (that means plain l-a-z-y). Now that I'm back, hopefully with this new found momentum will result in more entries to come.

Updates:
  • Last month was a doozy, my cuzin Anis got married (Aina, welcome to the family!) & my cuzin Ari got engaged to his sweet Fereen.
  • Celebrated New Year's at The Curve (more memorable for the huge crowd that counted down a few times to New Year... how many New Year's that I went thru just that one nite?)
  • Someone's birthday is coming up, but I can't remember who? hmmm....am I gonna get in trouble for this? hehe...
  • Tomorrow's a huge day for me in my life. A first step, god willing, to a very happy & joyous occasion.

26 years, 1 week & 3 days later...

It's a lil' over a week since my birthday. I was pretty busy that day itself at work. I won't go into the boring details, and just skip to the part when I got back from work. My lovely Sunshine treated me to dinner at Chilli's. Aahhh....it was just sinful; 3 big plates of food (including nachos, my favourite) & 2 big bottomless drinks, all finished between the 2 of us. A big meal before the fasting month, heheh...

Selamat berpuasa & beribadah sepanjang bulan Ramadhan.

Recipe: Nasi Goreng Kampung

Someone asked for the recipe of nasi goreng kampung in my blog. She googled for the recipe and got a link to my blog... how awesome is that! hehe...

Well, dunno if it's the standard recipe but this is the way I cook it. The quantity of ingredients depends on how many u r serving.

Ingredients:
  • rice - cooked & cooled (not steaming hot)
  • water spinach (sayur kangkung) - cut
  • small anchovies (ikan bilis) - mashed/blended (u can deep fry a small portion for garnish)
  • bird's eye chilli (cili padi) - mashed/blended (more chilli, more spicy)
  • shallots (bawang merah) - mashed/blended
  • garlic (bawang putih) - mashed/blended
  • egg
  • cooking oil
  • salt
  • beef/chicken sliced/cut into small bits or shrimp (optional if u want to add something extra in the rice)
Instructions:
  1. Heat wok (kuali) and add cooking oil.
  2. When oil is hot, add garlic & shallots.
  3. Add anchovies, stir fry for a bit.
  4. Add chillis.
  5. Add beef/chicken/shrimp (optional) till cooked.
  6. Add rice, stir till all ingredients are mixed.
  7. Make space in the middle of the wok and add egg (quantity depend on portion).
  8. Let egg cook for a bit, add salt to taste and then stir to mix with rice.
  9. Add water spinach, stir in with rice till cooked and ready to serve.
Enjoy!

Concert & Carnival

Last weekend was lots of fun. Saturday, went to Giant at Gombak (or is it considered Batu Caves?) with my dearest Sunshine to meet up with Anie & Remie. Anie talked 'bout the latest Prudential product. Time to think 'bout financial planning and investments. If ur looking for a great Prudential agent, look no further (hehe...dah advertise business ko nih, tade commission ke Anie?). After that, a little shopping n off to Sunshine's house. She asked me to teach her to cook nasi goreng kampung. So, tunjuklaa skill yang tak seberape nih. Heheh...sedap tak? We prepared the ingredients and I helped her with the cooking according to my recipe. We finished cooking just in time for the AF concert finals. That nite layan AF with her mom and aunt, whilst having nasi goreng kampung fresh from the stove.

Sunday, me & Sunshine volunteered to help out at Sekolah Impian Charity Carnival. It's my brother Haziq's school; a school for speacial children located near Titiwangsa. The charity carnival was officiated by the Minister of Women, Family & Community Development, Dato' Seri Shahrizat and the mayor of KL, Datuk Ruslin. My dad was the chairman of the event. There were lots of stalls at the charity carnival; parents & teachers selling mostly food & drinks using pre-bought coupons. Me & Sunshine were selling karipap. Supposedly have to be there early bcos kene goreng the karipap first before people start to arrive. Tapi my brother lambat bangun plak, n then had to wait for him to deliver the karipap n stuff. So, a bit latelaa but still manage to sell. We had a few coupons ourselves, so memang banyak gak makan that day. All in...quite fun and pretty much tired by the end of it.

Frustrations & Happy Occasions

Arrgghhh..!!! Needed to get that out of my system. Within the past 2 months, 6 of my colleagues have tendered their resignation for greener pasteurs. Good for them...congratulations! On the other hand more work for me.. huhuh! I'm swamped with more work as a result, coz 2 of my colleagues who have resigned are from my unit. Now all their responsbilities are mine! Can't blame them tho, coz presently it's a contract base job. Good benefits like medical, but no financial security or career advancement oppurtunity. Man, I gotta start looking for another job myself; with more pay and better oppurtunities. Anyone out there in need of my services, please let me know. I have a degree in Telecommunications Engineering with over 2 years of working experience. How's that for a little plug, hehe...

Now on with the happy occasions; I'd like to congratulate my cuzin Anis on his engagement to Aina. Need any help on your wedding, I'm there for you man!

Also, last weekend went out and watched 2 movies; The Lake House & Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest. The former a love story of sorts starring Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock. Liked it a lot; very sweet but need to watch it with an open heart and not think to much on the plausibility of the plot. Just enjoy it as is. The latter... what can I say that others have not.. Johnny Depp totally rocks! As Captain Jack Sparrow, he can do no wrong. The story is interesting and the effects are awesome. Watch out for the Kracken! (did I spell it right?) I think almost all of the original cast returns to the sequel which ends with a cliffhanger & a surprise! Definitely can't wait for the next sequel coming out next year.

So despite some frustrating elements in my life, there are still happy moments to keep me sane and hopeful of the future. In between that, just do stuff to keep my mind of it and enjoy life while u can.

This Saturday, Last Saturday

It's Friday now and to most people, they'll be looking forward to a relaxing weekend ahead. Me, on the other hand will be getting up early tomorrow morning to spend my day at the office. Damn working Saturday! Whose bright (stupid really!) idea is it to have people go to work on a Saturday? Is it not enuff that 5 days of hardwork (for sure! hehe...), to have my weekend break be a lonely Sunday? Arrgghh... n I have to work a full day at that, from 8:30am to 5:30pm. It's not like any real work gets done. Come on; who in their right mind would be in any mood at all to work on a weekend?

On an unrelated happy note, I want to congratulate my good friends Anie & Remie on their engagement last Saturday. I hope those pictures turn up okay, heheh... sorrylaa if not expertly taken. One thing yang kene puji; makanan memang sedap gile! Tempoyak plus pulut durian lagi...hmm.. selera abis! Good thing it was a work-free Saturday.

The Man of Steel Returns!

Its been over 20 years since the first Superman movie came out, I think sometime in the late 70s. It was before I was born, but I did get to see it and its sequels on video/tv as I grew up. U'd believe a man can fly and looked cool even when wearing the red & blue spandex. Looking back... the 1st was a classic, the 2nd was ok I suppose ('cept for the part when Superman kissed Lois Lane n she magically forgets that Superman's secret identity is Clark Kent, how stupid is that!), the 3rd was campy (n crap!), and the 4th...don't get me started on that. Well, generally speaking... all 4 were a product of its time, special effects and production wise but the thing that people will remember to this day is that Christopher Reeve is "the" Superman, and the inspiring musical score of the movies.

Finally, after years of development hell, Superman returns to the big screen. I had my doubts whether it would be any good, my fears were raised when I heard that they were going to follow the continuity of the first 2 movies since they differ from the comics (both Clark Kent's parents are alive in the comics). I cringe in fear imagining that it would retain some of the campiness/silliness of the old movies (I guess back then it was ok, tho some people think its the essence of comicbook movies...damn u Joel Schumacher for giving us Batman & Robin!). Come movie day, all my fears faded away and a wondrous spectacle came before me.

Instead of rebooting the Superman movie franchise and retelling the origin story with a modern setting (possibly more faithful to the comics like Batman Begins), the new movie tells the story of Superman's return after a 5 year absence. In essence, it reflects on how it has been so long since people have seen Superman on the big screen; its magic a distant memory. Like the citizens of metropolis and the rest of the world in this movie, we too get to rekindle that feeling of awe; u will believe a man can fly... and still look cool wearing the red & blue.

From the begining of the movie with the intro accompanied by the classic inspiring Superman theme, I was excited like a kid! Nothing can beat that music! Brandon Routh filled the role perfectly; nothin' new or different from the late Christopher Reeve; but what is there to change? The movie does well in showing how Clark Kent and Superman can't possibly be the same person to the people in the movie. Clark's mannerism and awkwardness hides his presence whereas Superman's iconic presence is felt and exudes confidence. Kate Bosworth played Lois Lane well, and any weakness to her character is probably due to the way she's written on script. I've heard some people disagree on her casting; saying she looks too young for the role, but I'm ok with that. Beats having someone old.. hhaha... Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor; perfect casting! The problem with Gene Hackman's portrayal as Lex in the old movies tho highly regarded, is that he doesn't seem to exude an evil persona; a more funny and camp villain then a cruel and evil mastermind. Some people probably think that Lex in the Smallville tv series is a better portrayal of the character; complex and serious; however Lex Luthor in this movie is still a formidable villain and well characterized with respect to the previous movies.

All other characters in the movie were done quite good; even James Marsden role is better here then it ever was in the X-Men movies! The action, the flying, the effects....u just have to watch this movie! Overall, it's a classic superman movie; nothing ground-breaking in the plot but still worth watching. Now the twist in the story can be quite controversial for fans; either love it or hate it since its probably never been considered in the comics. At first I was kinda unsure of it, since it'll definitely verve in a different direction from the comics unless they too follow suit. In the end I think it's gonna be an interesting story to follow up on in future sequels as I believe they are in good hands. Watch Superman Returns NOW!

Look! Up in the sky!
